Meet the C4U Executive
Veronica is a child of immigrant parents who left everything and everyone they knew in England for a new country. They especially wanted opportunities for their three children, and that is exactly what happened.
Veronica graduated from Monash University law school with a Bachelor of Juris Prudence and Bachelor of law. After completing her articles she practised law for a number of years in private practice. She then had an opportunity to go to the US where she undertook further studies while having her first child, graduating from Marymount University with a Masters Degree in Human Resource Development.
However, wanting to practice law in the U.S. she embarked on a Masters Degree of Comparative Law at George Washington University in Washington DC. After that she successfully passed the Bar exams, becoming a member of the Bar.
Veronica then practised law for a number of years until her return to Australia, twenty years later with three children.
Veronica is the founder of Clothes4U Inc. together with a number of other local women.
She is dedicated to serving women and girls in need in her own community, realising that being born into poverty does not have to define your life. Sometimes all you need is someone to give you a helping hand. At Clothes4U our arms are always open, ready to embrace everyone who walks through our doors.
Barb came to Australia with her family from Newport, South Wales in 1983, first settling in Mordialloc where they added to their family with a son. After a number of moves Barb settled in Rosebud.
Most of her working life was spent with leading Australian companies where she assisted a number of CEO’s in the performance of their duties.
Barb has worked at a corporate level for most of her career where she was instrumental in the creation and implementation of policy.
Subsequently, Barb established and ran her own successful business with her husband.
As Secretary, Barb utilises her communication skills, organisational ability, corporate experience, management and business experience in Clothes4U Inc.
Barb has been with Clothes4U since its inception and is one of its most devoted volunteers. She loves nothing more than seeing the transformation of clients from the time they enter the boutique to the time they leave.
Recently retired from The Langham Hotel, Melbourne where I was Director of Quality. Prior to this I was the Director of Six Sigma, Black Belt, when the property was under the Starwood Hotels umbrella. Most of my hospitality background was operational, in the Rooms Division department, dealing with strategic and logistic issues. I was responsible for over 200 staff as well as handling guest situations. I was also responsible for creating, training and implementing the company continuous improvement program worldwide.
I travelled to all of the Langham Hotels trouble shooting and mentoring Quality and Training Managers. I was very lucky to assist The Langham, London during the London Olympics. Clothes 4 U has given me an opportunity to continue using the skills gained while working in the hospitality industry. It is important to give back to the community, especially our local one.
I moved to the Mornington Peninsula thirteen years ago after spending 25 years in Beaumaris.
Most of my working life has been in the fashion industry. I studied dressmaking at Emily McPherson and then went on to work for Finlaw Industries in the design room and then in the office where I gained valuable experience in all aspects of running a large office. I then travelled overseas for a few years and continued working in fashion in London.
On my return to Melbourne I worked for 11 years as P.A. to the Dean of the School of Music, The Victorian College of the Arts. This was an amazing job organising overseas performers (who travelled all over Australia to other universities) and students’ timetables. I gained valuable experience in the organisation of a tertiary college.
I left the V.C.A. to have my daughter and when returning to the workforce decided to go back into the Rag Trade and worked for Selwyn Fabrics until their retirement in 1993.
I then went to work for Vallance Fabrics (where I still work part-time). Whilst working for both fabric companies I have been involved with all aspects of importing & selling fabric from Asia. I have been involved in the managing of Debtors, Creditors, Budget Forecasting, Costings as well as having input into the buying of fabrics for the manufacturing industry.
I have been with Clothes4U from the beginning and as well as my role as Treasurer – I like nothing better than seeing the amazing transformation of the women we assist. It gives me great pleasure helping these women to see the potential of looking good and the confidence they achieve once we have dressed them.
